Journey of a Soul

When a man is on his death bed taking his final few breaths, his mind races through a cascade of memories, a vivid montage of moments that defined his life. Laughter shared, tears shed and triumphs celebrated.  Surrounded by his loved ones as he inhales air for one last time he exhales the life out of him.  A burst of light shatters and a beam shoots toward the sky as the soul departs the body and ascends beyond the sky.    As the soul leaves the planet, memories gently fade, carrying the essence of experiences and emotions. It journeys into the boundless expanse of space, gliding past the radiant star—the very source of life—before surrendering to the infinite embrace of the Universe. Stripped out of purpose, the soul drifts aimlessly through the endless expansion of the abyss. I don’t often encounter extraordinary people, but when I do, I make sure to remember their names, so I can share their stories with others. Three years ago, I met one such person during a visit to my village, Anulia, in the Howrah district, about 50 kilometers from Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal. Here, "extraordinary" doesn't refer to someone's abilities or achievements, but rather their dedication to putting society's interests before their own. Meet Dr. Dilip Kumar Mondal. Born in 1951, this 66-year-old didn't always aspire to become a doctor. During his high school years in the late 1960s, West Bengal was in the throes of the Naxalite movement. Influenced by local student groups, he actively participated in the uprising. However, by 1971, the combined efforts of the state police and the Indian Army had successfully curbed the insurgency.
